The San Francisco 49ers have announced that they have released TE Bruce Miller following his arrest for assault at a Fisherman’s Wharf hotel in San Francisco yesterday.

Miller reportedly tried to check in to the Marriott Hotel, but was told there were no rooms available. He later returned and reportedly assaulted a guest and his father after the guest answered the door to his hotel room and told the 49ers tight end that he had the wrong room. – Full story here

The San Francisco 49ers have named their starting QB.

The veteran quarterback made the team’s 53-man lineup, but 49ers coach Chip Kelly announced Saturday that Blaine Gabbert will serve as starting quarterback against the Rams in Week 1. Kaepernick will play the No. 2 role ahead of Christian Ponder.

It comes as little surprise that Kaepernick made the club. He played relatively well in Thursday’s preseason finale, guiding the team on a 16-play touchdown drive and showing better arm strength than the previous week. Gabbert, though, spent nearly the entire offseason running Kelly’s attack while Kaepernick nursed multiple injuries.

49ers sign QB Thad Lewis.
The team will bring in Lewis, likely to compete for a back up role.

Lewis, 28, worked under Kelly with the Eagles in 2015 as the third quarterback behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez, but was not a member of the 46-man active roster for any regular season games.

NFL Network’s Rand Getlin broke the news today that the agents for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick have requested permission from the team to seek a trade.

On Wednesday, during his press conference with the media at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke stated that Kaepernick would “absolutely” be on the team on April 1st. Kaepernick is guaranteed his base salary of $11.9 million on that date and would count about $15.9 million against the 49ers’ cap in 2016.

There has been a lot of speculation that Kaepernick was unhappy in San Francisco and might be traded prior to that deadline. “The last time we talked to Colin, Colin was excited,” said Baalke on Wednesday. Earlier today, Al Sacco wrote an article stating that Baalke’s comments on Wednesday don’t guarantee anything for Kaepernick. Full story here
